Summary
- Pip's investigation in A Good Girl's Guide to Murder uncovers Max Hastings' history of sexual assault.
- Max Hastings is a detestable character, and he's a far cry from Henry Ashton's My Lady Jane role.
- Ashton's next role as Daeron Targaryen in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will show off his range even further.
A Good Girl's Guide to Murder has multiple villain twists, but one of them hits much harder after Prime Video's 2024 fantasy romance show, My Lady Jane. A Good Girl's Guide to Murder sees Emma Myers' heroine investigating the death of high school student Andie Bell, five years after the case is closed. Pip doesn't believe that Andie's boyfriend at the time was the one who killed her — and A Good Girl's Guide to Murder's ending proves her right.
Pip discovers that there are layers to Andie's death, resulting in multiple reveals at the end of season 1. While Andie's sister, Becca, is the person who sealed Andie's fate, there are multiple suspects with something to hide. One of them is Max Hastings, who wasn't directly involved in Andie's demise. However, his history of sexual assault is uncovered through Pip's investigation, and it could serve as the central focus of A Good Girl's Guide to Murder season 2. Max is played by Henry Ashton, and after My Lady Jane, this villain twist feels even more surprising.

Henry Ashton's A Good Girl's Guide To Murder Villain Is A Far Cry From His My Lady Jane Character
The Netflix Series' Max Hastings Reveal Shows The Actor's Range
Ashton plays Lord Stan Dudley in My Lady Jane, which currently boasts 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. And while Stan starts off as a bit of a jerk, he quickly becomes a lovable hero. Stan is probably one of the most beloved characters from Prime Video's romance show, and Ashton's performance is largely responsible for that. It's strange to see Ashton take on a villain role right after, as Max Hastings is a far cry from his My Lady Jane character. This arguably makes A Good Girl's Guide to Murder's twist hit even harder.
While he leans into charm and humor in My Lady Jane, he explores a darker and less likable personality in A Good Girl's Guide to Murder.
The shift in characters also shows Ashton's range as an actor, allowing him to flex different muscles. While he leans into charm and humor in My Lady Jane, he explores a darker and less likable personality in A Good Girl's Guide to Murder. And Ashton will switch things up again with his next TV role, which is another big departure from his previous characters.
Henry Ashton's Next TV Show Character Is Another Big Departure From His 2024 Roles
He'll Play Daeron Targaryen In A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms

Ashton's next TV character will be Daeron Targaryen in HBO's Game of Thrones spinoff A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. This role will likely catapult the actor to even greater levels of fame, and it will allow him to explore the middle ground between Stan Dudley and Max Hastings. In George R.R. Martin's source material, Daeron is described as a drunk with some notable Targaryen gifts. He isn't a villain, but he isn't exactly a fan-favorite character either. Needless to say, the show will mark another big jump for Ashton after A Good Girl's Guide to Murder.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is currently expected to premiere in late 2025.
